What includes two or three people every month (or sometimes more often) from year to year search, discover, organize, exibit, spread information, say an opening word, kiss the artist and invite for a “usual our evening”? And for 25 years so! A wish to spread beauty? To be a part of “artists’ society”? Habit? Calling? Or maybe everything at a time?
Fundamental impulse is probably not important. It is more important that today BAROTI gallery, contrary to usual practice of galleries that close their doors before even their wide opening, still exists. Moreover – deservedly is given a name of one of the main culture centers or more precisely – a phenomenon – of Klaipėda: with its own traditions, image, artists, clients and visitors…
Equilibristic maneuvering between modern classic and contemporary (not necessary postmodern) art searchings, gallery presents the artists of characteristic style and authentic creative thinking. Latter, disregarding their country of origin, art genre they are developing, fame, i.e. differences, are very similar in essence: with their ideological load, associative language, attention to technique, professionalism, harmony of form and subject.
Gallery is a place, where artist becomes “visible”, known and (make no secret) desirable. What is interesting in this case is that everything is implemented in Klaipėda, a city, which does not distinguish for dynamics of a rich art market. From one side we may treat it as an advantage – open space of realization of ideas, but from the other, capability “to keep high level”, whereas no competitive environment exists, becomes an enormous challenge. Apparently boldly accepted!
To be an artist of the BAROTI gallery or at least to exibit your works there has become a matter of prestige during twenty five years of gallery existence. As Baroti name itself, this lost a meaning of only a surname of the owner and famous ceramic artist of Lithuania. Today it has become a market sign, a label, which witnesses quality, high standards and strong positions.
