International art project “Flight stroke”
It’s “extreme art” project, whose main accent – jump from a plane with a
parachute.
Since Klaipeda is a port, city on the shore of the Baltic sea, it’s very
interesting how that kind of landscape will look from a “bird’s flight”.
Unrepeatable emotions, felt at the time of flight, can inspire very
original,unexpected and interesting creative solutions.

Photography exhibition “German jazz”
At the time of “German Cultural Spring” and 15 Klaipeda castle jazz
festival a photography exhibition “German jazz” was opened at the Baroti
gallery.
Goethe institute co-operating with Baroti gallery has presented an
exposition of photography where all the history of German jazz and its
artists are presented. While exhibition will take place, visitors will
have a perfect chance to get to know German jazz clubs, festivals,
publishing companies and artists.
Exhibition reveals exceptional personalities and types of this music,
besides it gives us opportunity to understand the importance of radio in
jazz history.
Jazz came to Germany in the 1930s.It was forbidden by the Third Reich
and after the war it was sign of democracy and freedom, in the ‘70s jazz
kept developing with the examples of American jazz.Today it would be
hard to imagine Germany without jazz.
In the life of German culture jazz takes very strong and important
position.Jazz musicians like Albert Mangelsdorff, Peter Brötzmann or
Till Brönner are well known worldwide.
Bigbands of German radio stations like NDR, WDR and HR gave lots of new
ideas and inspired all modern bigband jazz.Publishing companies Enja,
ECM or ACT earned a worldwide recognition by presenting music programmes
– for their international audience they presented not only American
artists but also interesting music projects from Germany.
Exhibition “German jazz” explaines why at this time German jazz is one
of the most vital types of music in Europe. This exposition illustrates
individual achievements, backstage of regional music, East and West
structures, tells us about music, which in many years developed people’s
trust, changes. At the exposition you can see reflections of the changes
in jazz artists, their music and audience.
Short introductory texts in german, english and lithuanian languages and
more exhaustive explanations on specific themes are writen to awake
interest in German jazz.Photos of personal archieves made the exhibition
even more special.Jazz lovers had a chance to look through the
exposition and at the same time listen to jazz. This exhibition was
dedicated to all the curious, interested in music and jazz music experts.

Vilmantas Marcinkevičius “ Without a registration place”
You don’t have to present Vilmantas Marcinkevičius to lithuanian
audience. He is one of the most famous artists nowadays, whose creations
are loved and appreciated in Lithuania and abroad.
“Without a registration place”- it’s emotional and physical state of
people marked by war and love.Worry, expectation, disillusion,
tiredness, synthetical passion and faded hope – these words could
perfectly describe the exhibition.”Death and love – strongest challenge
for a human. By choosing the combination of these two themes,I have
chosen the privilege of an artist to ask the viewer uncomfortable
questions.This time – about nation’s, state’s and individual’s history,
price of political, economical and personal victories and losses”,-
that’s how the artist comments his exhibition’s theme.
The painter was happy to open the exhibition on 9th of May, day notable
for two occasions.First,it’s a day many years celebrated as the day of
Victory against Nazi Germany with parades and red flags. It’s like the
works of V.Marcinkevičius are asking, what did it mean then and what does
it mean now for the participants of all those events, what was the price
of wins and lossesnot in history books, but in curves of people’s
lifes. The 9th of May is also the Europe day.In 1950s,at the time when
Europe was in presence of Third World War,the first step towards
European Union was taken. However, behind exterior of all those
celebrations that shine with optimism there’s another,dark- personal
stories about hard times of changes- side. Not necessarily clean and
pure. That means: to see and hear it you need courage…
So, what is it that the workers of God’s house of rod are dreaming about
before going to sleep? And what are the tired and sad, angry and hopeful
searching for in there?
On the canvas – theme of war and death.Lots of allusions to various
historical eras: antiquity, wars of 20th century, the signs of
informational, advertical wars are recognized too.
We should notice the names of works too.”Cursed god of love” and
“Blessed goddess of war”, “Knights of the Unhealable wound club”,”Dancer
of the killers nation” ,etc.- ironical or poetical, but always precise
names open wide opportunities of interpretation and skillfully create
intrigue.
Next to his distinctive style (decorative colour consonances, subtle
balance between abstract and shape painting, especial lucidity of faces
and shapes) V.Marcinkevičius shows a new way of painting. In his
creations – new, insolent themes, unexpected colours (synthetic pink,
light blue nuances), dense stroke.
“New paintings of V.Marcinkevičius pleasingly surprised. Juicy stroke
and new solutions with colours gave painters kitchen new piquant and
characteristic spices.Paintings are “heavier”,sensual,demanding more
attention and space for themselves”,- said art critic A.Virbickaitė.
2008 04 17 – 05 08
Audrius Gražys “Road”
Art critic Aistė Paulina Virickaitė talking about Audrius Gražys
paintings says that he‘s a generous painter. That’s why viewer’s eyes
never get tired of roving through created abstractions. He equally enjoys
colour and manner of execution, while lightly but ensurely spreading on
canvas distinct, rich colours. “Tasty” colouring of the paintings and
the impression of a light stroke attracts and doesn’t let go – a journey
deeper begins to a world only senced by subconsciousness, misty memories
and dreams unexplained by words. To a world, where words and stories
don’t have such strong power. Images released from verbal discours
create their own language, supported by liberated associations and
presentiment. Delicatness, quietness, surroundings’ echo, anxiety of
existence, concentration and emotional trepidation inside and aroud you
finding new lands – this all easily fits to opened spaces in A.Gražys
paintings.
It seems, that artist creates the impression of fantasy lightness just
in one breath. But it’s quite deceptive. Enjoying itself eyes always find
new painting coats, that intrigue and stimulate you to use your
intellectual tools for estimating the view.Take a better look to
A.Gražys creations: brush, that leaves light and friable strokes, is
controlled skillfully and precisely. Colourful harmony is created a bit
coquettish by varying it with from first sight unnoticable interlaces of
colour layers: to dominating natural, clear colours, synthetical
nuances, like the salt of life, are tied in.The composition based on
games of horizontal lines is clear and simple, but in slight waving of
those lines, their points of crossing, a strain is created, that
stimulates to search and find. Probably there you’ll find a part of
yourself too- A.Gražys horizon of paintings is very wide, everyone fits
there.

Exhibition of ceramic works by Grazina Svaziene
Gražina Švažienė learned ceramics at Kaunas applied art‘s school, later
at Vilnius art‘s institute (now Art‘s academy). In 1970 artist was
invited to teach at the Ceramics cathedral and in 1989 gained lecturer‘s
degree. From 1963 ceramist actively participates at republican and
foreign exhibitions, international symposiums (works displayed in
Kanada, Czechoslovaky, Polland, Germany, France, in various former
Soviet union republics).
For various creative works in 1970 she was awarded with Lithuanias art
fond prize, in 1982 - Lithuanias culture‘s ministry diploma and prize.
According to A. Dapkutė „Works of Gražina Švažienė tell about loyalty to
old ceramic‘s art from prehistorical times. In works of artist
civilization‘s, city culture‘s signs and nature fuse to one , which to
lithuanians still is the source of artistic inspiration.
In all works we see sculptural forms, graphic elements and painting‘s
combinations. That unity almost always turns to cheerful painting
totality, where colourful glaze gives shine and beauty, colouring joins
separate elements. Frequent G. Švažienės work – like bright
water-colour, playful miniature. This decorativity reminds forgotten
relation with art – she‘s ment to be admired, to feel the pleasure of
watching .“

„ALBUM OF VILNIUS“ – art-book No.1.

modernism, postmodernism, avangard, doesn‘t seek to shock. It reveales
different creators as they are – that is what is our culture.

fragile nature. Crested Creatures, that look much like Chicken, as
Gypsies Tabor Travel from one Plot to another, adapting it for their
Needs and Temperament (doesn’t matter what is shown – “Sodoma” or

always show off their fancy Carnival Dresses, Harem Décor and odd
Accessories,so it leads People to usual Reaction: understand their
existans as intriguing orient Tale, with its moral Rules. Author also
doesn’t seem to be strictly resolved to ironize her sinners: their Forms

erotic, aristocratic and poor.
